What do the scholars of the Dīn and muftīs of the Sacred Law state regarding the following issue: Is it permissible for men to have their teeth made with gold or silver due to medical problems?

الجواب بعون الملک الوھاب اللھم ھدایۃ الحق والصواب
If survival with silver teeth is possible, then a man should get his teeth made of silver only. Gold teeth will not be permissible. Therefore, teeth made of silver or some other material should be used. However, if teeth of silver or any other metal are not enough and there is still odour and decay, then a man can get his teeth made of gold. This is only permissible if it is necessary; if it is not necessary then it is impermissible for a man to have gold teeth.
Imam Ahmad Rida Khan (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked regarding golden tooth coverings and thus was his reply, “Golden tooth coverings are absolutely permissible for women and are permissible for men only out of necessity. This is when there is some speciality in gold that is to be dependent upon and is not found in silver, etc.”

It is mentioned in al-Hidayah, “The original ruling regarding the use of gold is impermissibility. It becomes permissible only out of necessity. If the need is fulfilled by using silver, and using silver is more feasible than using gold, then the ruling regarding the impermissibility of gold will be maintained. The need is not fulfilled in this case, i.e. a nose implant, without the use of gold. Because, foul odour is emitted by metals other than gold.”

In todays day and age, there have been new developments in medicine such that there are many other materials other than gold than can be used for teeth. Therefore, unless strictly necessary, gold teeth should be avoided.
