QUESTION:
What do the scholars of the Dīn and muftīs of the Sacred Law state regarding the following issue: If my father tells me to sever ties with my sister, then what should I do?
Questioner: Usman from UK
ANSWER:
بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم
الجواب بعون الملک الوھاب اللھم ھدایۃ الحق والصواب
It is Harām [unlawful] for one to sever ties with one’s daughter, as showing compassion, mercy & kindness [amongst relatives] is Fard, and in this matter it would be impermissible to fulfil the father’s wishes in this matter because it has been mentioned in Hadīth that it is not permissible to obey creation by disobeying the Creator. Hence, it is a must that you do not sever ties with your sister; rather, you should try explaining to your blessed father that he shouldn’t say to do such things.
