QUESTION:
What do the scholars and muftis of the noble Shari’ah say regarding the following matter; is it necessary to organise grand Mawlid gatherings along with the recitation of na’ats (hymns in praise of the Prophet ﷺ)? Is there any other way in which Mawlid can be celebrated?
Questioner: Tauqir from UK
ANSWER:
بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم
الجواب بعون الملک الوھاب اللھم ھدایۃ الحق والصواب
Mawlid, in reality, is narration of the events that occurred during the birth of the Noble Prophet ﷺ and expressing joy upon his birth, on the occasion of his birthday. It can be done by organising a huge gathering along with the recitation of na’ats or by holding a small gathering at home involving members of the family. A huge gathering is not necessary for celebrating the Mawlid. There are many ways of celebrating the Mawlid. Some of them are: reciting salawat (prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ), going out in a procession, decorating the home, feeding people, etc.
