QUESTION:

What do the scholars and muftis of the noble Shari’ah say regarding the following matter; how can we protect ourselves from black magic? My in-laws are doing black magic upon me. How can I save myself from their magic? Kindly advise me a litany or a method (to protect myself).

There are many ways to protect oneself from black magic. We shall present three of them below:

First method: Reciting the ‘Six Locks’ in abundance. Whomsoever recites them every night or keeps them with himself in writing, will be protected from every type of sorcery and calamity. If the Six Locks are recited and blown into the ear of the one affected by sorcery or possession by the jinn, the effect of sorcery will go away, or the jinn will be driven out of the body of the person, respectively. These six litanies are known as the Shash Qufl (Six Locks). They are as follows:

First Lock:

Second Lock:

Third Lock:

Fourth Lock:

Fifth Lock:

Sixth Lock:

Second method: Reciting Surah al-Falaq and Surah al-Nas. If these two chapters are recited 100 times and blown over a person afflicted with sorcery, in sha Allah (Allah willing), the effect of sorcery will diminish. Alternately, if they are recited for the same number of times, blown over water and given to the patient to drink, then the effect of sorcery will end. It is recorded in Sahih Muslim regarding these chapters:

Translation: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Some verses were revealed to me tonight, the like of which has never been seen: “Say: I seek refuge with (Allah), the Lord of the daybreak.” And “Say: I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of mankind.”’” [Sahih Muslim, hadith no. 814]

Third method: Writing down the following two verses of Surah Yunus and hanging them around the patient’s neck.

[Surah Yunus, 81-82]

Also, recite the above verses, blow over water and make the patient drink this water. Ask the patient to sit in a large tub and bathe him with this water. Pour this water in some place.

Until it is certain that those who have done black magic upon you are your in-laws, accusing them of doing so is not only suspicion but also slander. Both are sinful acts and abstaining from them is necessary. Even if, in reality, your in-laws have done black magic upon you, do not spoil your relations by telling it to others. Act upon the methods mentioned above, Allah ﷻ will surely save you from harm and the sorcerers will definitely pay the price of their doing.
