QUESTION:
What do the ‘ulamā say regarding the piercings a woman has for jewellery in her ears and nose, is it necessary for her to pour water into them during a fard ghusl (an obligatory bath)?

الجواب بعون الملک الوھاب اللھم ھدایۃ الحق والصواب
If these jewellery piercings are not closed up then pouring water into them is Fard. If these piercings are tightened and constricted due to the wearing of the jewellery then these pieces [whether ear studs or nose studs] must be removed whilst pouring the water, otherwise [if the piercings are loose and water can enter the piercings] removing them is not necessary. This is the same ruling for earrings and other jewellery piercings.
Just as it is mentioned in Bahār-e-Sharī’at that if the piercing of a nose stud is not closed up then to enter water into it is Fard. If it is tight then the jewellery piece must be moved around when pouring water into it, otherwise it is not necessary [to move it]. This is the same ruling for ear piercings and other jewellery.

If the piercing holes for jewellery have closed up due to not wearing the jewellery pieces then there is no need to worry over them and there is no need for any extra caution because it is not necessary to get water inside them. Just as my master A’lā Hazrat Imām Ahmad Ridā Khān (may Allāh shower him with mercy) mentions in al-Fatāwā al-Ridawiyyah that, in general, to pour water on every single part of the outward part of the body, every single hair, is Fard otherwise Ghusl will not be valid, but the places of difficulty are exempt [from washing], for example, the eyeballs, a woman’s platted hair, the closed up jewellery piercings of the nose and ears.
