Questioner: Aftab from UK
ANSWER:
The reason why wudu is important for performing Salah is because Salah purifies the heart. Hence, prior to this we should purify our apparent body because apparent purity is the cause for attaining inner purity.
The one who is affected by the illness of itching, his clothes, his home and his body are constantly kept clean so that he may attain good health/fitness meaning the outer cleanliness allows for the inner to be clean.
Furthermore, when one is to go in the presence of a man of respect and high status, prior to setting off one makes sure that he is clean. Prayer is where one presents oneself in the court of Allah Azzawajal who is the King of all Kings this is why to present oneself in the court of Allah Azzawajal it is mandatory for one to have attained purity. This is the original reason why Allah Azzawajal has ordered wudu for prayer as mentioned in the Noble Qur’aan;
Translation: “O People who Believe! When you wish to stand up for prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows and pass wet palms over your heads and wash your feet up to the ankles.”
