QUESTION:

I would like to know if it is okay for a female who is on her menstrual cycle, to just sit in the masjid?

ANSWER:

In Maraqi al-Falah it is clearly stated:

“Entering a masjid is prohibited in the state of Menstruation and Post-Natal Bleeding”

[Maraqi al-Falah pg 144]

Unfortunately in these times when we have abandoned the study of personally obligatory knowledge (fard ‘ayn) many sisters out of ignorance enter and sit inside masajid teaching the Qur’an while being in this prohibitive state. It is incumbent upon members of Masjid Committees that they are also acquainted with these rules so that provision is made for non-masjid designated classroom areas for the teaching of children.

Allah knows best.
