QUESTION:
Does a man’s wudu break if he scratches his front private organ? Is it permissible to scratch this part of one’s body unnecessarily?
ANSWER:
Wudu does not break by simply scratching the penis even if without a cloth over it.
لا ینقض الو ضو ء مس ذكر و مس امر أة أي مس بشر تها و كذا مس الدبر و الفر ج مطلقا كذا في مجمع الانهر
Trans: “Ablution does not break by touching the penis, vagina or anus.”
It is inappropriate to scratch this part of one’s body unnecessarily as proven by a blessed hadith;
انّ لكفك لمو ضعا غيره
Trans: “There is a place other than this for your hands.”
According to Imam Shafi’i and Imam Ahmad (رضى الله عنهما) touching the penis without anything over it will break wudu.
