QUESTION:
Is there such a narration that gifts of rings were sent from Jannah on the engagement of Sayyidunā ‘Alī and Sayyidah Fātimah (may Allāh be pleased with the both). My Grandmother mentioned this story. Furthermore please inform me of any book written on marital relations.
ANSWER:
بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم
الجواب بعون الملک الوھاب اللھم ھدایۃ الحق والصواب
The sending of heavenly gifts on the engagement of Sayyidunā ‘Alī, the lion of Allāh and Sayyidah Fātimah al-Zahrah (may Allāh be pleased with them both) is all fabricated. Yes, after their nikāh when Sayyidah Fātimah al-Zahrah (may Allāh be pleased with her) became married to Sayyidunā ‘Alī (may Allāh keep him blessed), some narrations are found mentioning the arrival of heavenly foods and other gifts on their wedding night, but they are very weak.
There are many books available on the topic of marital relations written by sunnī ‘ulamā one may purchase. One can refer to the Chapter of Nikāh in the part 7 of Bahār-e-Sharī’at, Qānūn-e-Sharī’at or Sunnī Bahishtī Zewar. Some of these books are now also available in the English language.
