QUESTION:

What do the scholars and the muftis of the noble shariah say regarding this matter; Upon the completion of my tawaf and Saie (whilst still in the state of Ihram as I was yet to shave my head) I was passing through the washroom and noticed a cockroach on me. My instinct reaction was to throw the cockroach onto the floor and without thinking I did so and killed it using my feet. I forgot I was in the state of Ihram. Do I have to pay a penalty as killing of an insect is prohibited whilst in the state of Ihram?

Questioner: Bilal from Leicester, UK

Insects or animals that can cause harm to an individual, such as snakes, cockroaches etc can be killed. There is no penalty on the one who kills such animals or insects whilst in the state of Ihram.
