[Q-ID0360] Does the blood from the armpits nullify wudu? Will I have to change clothes?

QUESTION:

What do the scholars of the Din and muftis of the Sacred Law state regarding the following issue: while shaving the armpits, blood oozes out from tiny boils, stopping which is very difficult. In what situation, does wudu (minor ablution) break due to this (blood)? If the blood dries up, shall salah be offered without washing it away or not?

Sometimes while shaving the hair from the armpits, blood oozes out from tiny boils when they get ruptured. If this blood is of a quantity that can flow, then it is a nullifier of wudhū.

Imām Ahmad Ridā Khān (may Allāh have mercy upon him) states that flowing means to slide down after emerging. If it does not slide due to some restriction and would have flowed if the restriction was not present, then it is also considered flowing. Such flowing (of blood) is considered as a nullifier of wudhū according to the consensus of our Imāms (Hanafīs).

If the blood that is capable of flowing stains something (cloth, etc.) and dries up, and is more than the size of a dirham in span [in the UK a 50p coin is the equivalent to the size of a dirham], then washing it is fard (obligatory). Offering Salāh by wearing clothes that are smeared by such blood is not permissible. If someone offers Salāh by wearing such clothes, it is invalid because blood is najāsah ghalīzah (heavy impurity).

It is mentioned in Bahār-e-Sharī’at that the ruling regarding najāsah ghalīzah is that if it stains the body or clothes and spans more than a dirham, then cleaning it is fard. If someone offers Salāh without cleaning the stain, then it will not be valid at all. If it is equal to the size of a dirham, cleaning it is wājib (compulsory). Offering Salāh in such case will make it makrūh tahrīmī (prohibitively disliked). Offering it knowingly (in this condition) is a sin. Re-offering the Salāh (after cleaning the impurity) is wājib. If the quantity of impurity is less than that of a dirham, then cleaning it is Sunnah. Salāh will be acceptable with it but will be against the Sunnah. Re-offering the Salāh in such a case is better.
