QUESTION:

What do the scholars of the Dīn and muftīs of the Sacred Law state regarding the following issue: what is the ruling regarding reciting verses from the middle of a Surah in Salah?  Is it necessary to start the recitation from the beginning of a Surah?

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم
الجواب بعون الملک الوھاب اللھم ھدایۃ الحق والصواب

One’s Salah is perfectly valid by reciting three or more verses from the middle of a Surah but is preferred to abstain from doing so, as Allama Ibn Aabideen Shami writes in Durr al-Muhtar as follows:

“وَكَذَا لَوْ قَرَأَ فِي الْأُولَى مِنْ وَسَطِ سُورَةٍ أَوْ مِنْ سُورَةٍ أَوَّلَهَا ثُمَّ قَرَأَ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ مِنْ وَسَطِ سُورَةِ أُخْرَى أَوْ مِنْ أَوَّلِهَا أَوْ سُورَةً قَصِيرَةً الْأَصَحُّ أَنَّهُ لَا يُكْرَهُ، لَكِنْ الْأَوْلَى أَنْ لَا يَفْعَلَ مِنْ غَيْرِ ضَرُورَةٍ”

Similarly, if someone recites from the middle or beginning of a Surah in the first Rak’at, then from the middle or beginning of another Surah or a short Surah in the second Rak’at, the correct ruling is that is it not undesirable (Makruh), but it is better to abstain from doing so unnecessarily.
