QUESTION:

Can we kiss our thumbs and recite durood shareef during the jummah azaan and khutbah?

ANSWER:

It is not allowed to kiss the thumbs or recite durood shareef (salawat) during the second adhaan (which is just before the khutbah) and during the khutba of Jummu’ah.

Imam Ahmad Rida Khan (رحمة الله عليه) writes:

(the thumbs should not be kissed) in prayer, or in khutbah or whilst listening to Qur’an. Its prohibition in prayer is clear, and at the time of khutbah & Qur’an recitation, it is necessary to be attentive and avoid any other work.
