QUESTION:

What do the scholars of the Dīn and muftīs of the Sacred Law state regarding the following issue: Is it permissible for Muslims in India for them to shave their beards so that they may protect & save their lives from extremist Hindus?

Questioner: Akram from India

ANSWER:

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم
الجواب بعون الملک الوھاب اللھم ھدایۃ الحق والصواب

It is impermissible to shave the beard, however if a Muslim lives in a Hindu-majority area and such person cannot migrate from this area, as well as there being a real risk & danger of their life, then it is permissible in such case for said Muslim to cut his beard. However, this is not the case for every area in India, therefore, one should not have the audacity to cut one’s beard willy-nilly in every single case scenario without valid reason, as has been explained above.
