Questioner: A sister from UK

ANSWER:

Nowadays, people are very lazy in performing acts of worship. Especially women, who are a victim of increased laziness during these days (of exemption from salah). Moreover, they do not fulfill fard [obligatory] acts even after these days are over. Therefore, the noble scholars have stated that women, during the days when they are exempt from salah, must sit on the prayer mat at prayer time reciting dhikr and salawat. This is allowed for them.

I will suggest you to recite those litanies during Ramadan which the Prophet ﷺ himself taught us. The Holy Prophet ﷺ stated:

Translation: “In this month, you should perform four things in abundance, two of which shall be to please your Lord ﷻ, while the other two shall be those without which you cannot make do. Those which shall be to please your Lord, are reciting La ilaha illa Allah, and istighfar (seeking Allah’s ﷻ forgiveness). As for those two without which you cannot make do, you should ask Allah ﷻ for entry into paradise and seek refuge with Him from the hellfire.”

[Shu’ab al-Iman and Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah]

Meaning, the kalimah tayyibah, La ilaha illa Allah, and istighfar must be recited in abundance. Istighfar means to pray to Allah ﷻ for forgiveness. Apart from this, one must supplicate to Allah ﷻ asking for paradise and seeking refuge with Him ﷻ from the hellfire. Salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ are to be read 100 times before and after these supplications so that they are accepted.
