There is only permission for wearing contact lenses which are soaked in solution when the liquid, meaning, solution has been properly cleaned off so that it doesn’t reach the throat through the eye passage. This is because according to new research and the science of anatomy, there is a passage between the eye and throat, and it is an accepted principle of Hanafī fiqh that the fast will become invalid if anything reaches the throat or brain through a passage.

Just as it is mentioned in Radd al-Muhtār

وَ الْمُفْطِرُ إنَّمَا هُوَ الدّاخِلُ مِنَ الْمَنَافِذِ

“A fast becomes invalid when something enters through [one of] the passages.”

[Radd al-Muhtār, Bāb mā Yufsid al-Sawm wa mā lā Yufsiduh, Vol. 2, Pg. 396]

And likewise, if the lenses are only moist and there is no liquid on them, even then one is allowed to wear them in the state of fasting because they are only moist but there is no such thing on them which can reach the throat through the eyes.

If, after wearing the contact lenses, one can taste the solution in the throat, then the fast will break. Therefore, it is better that one avoids wearing them whilst in the state of fasting.
