[Q-ID0373] Can we put a plaster on a bleeding wound and then pray if time is running out?

QUESTION:

What do the scholars of the Din and muftis of the Sacred Law state regarding the following issue: if blood flow from a wound does not stop, and the time for salah is running out, can blood flow be restricted forcefully using a plaster and salah be commenced?

الجواب بعون الملک الوھاب اللھم ھدایۃ الحق والصواب

Yes, this can be done. If blood flow can be restricted using a plaster or cloth until performing wudu and praying fard (obligatory) salah, then doing so would be necessary.

It is mentioned in Fatawa Hindiyyah,

مَتَى قَدَرَ الْمَعْذُورُ عَلَى رَدِّ السَّيَلَانِ بِرِبَاطٍ أَوْ حَشْوٍ أَوْ كَانَ لَوْ جَلَسَ لَا يَسِيلُ وَلَوْ قَامَ سَالَ وَجَبَ رَدُّهُ

“If a ma’dhur (excused one) can restrict blood flow using a piece of cloth or in any other way, or if it stops flowing when he prays whilst seated and blood flows if salah is offered whilst standing, then doing so [restricting blood flow using a cloth/plaster, or sitting down to pray etc] would be fard.”
