QUESTION:
Can we mix pure and impure clothes together and then wash them?
ANSWER:
It is not allowed to wash pure and impure clothes together, this is because to make that which is pure into something impure is regarded as a sin. Mixing pure clothes with impure clothes will result in the pure clothes becoming impure. Hence, you should wash the impure clothes separately and then wash them alongside the pure clothes.
In Badai al-Sanai of Allamah Kasani (رحمة الله عليه) it states,
اما تنجیس الطاھر فحرام
“It is haraam to make pure things impure.”
[Badai al-Sanai vol 1, page 94]
Imam Ahmad Rida Khan (رحمة الله عليه) writes, “Making clothes and the body impure without proper reason is haraam.”
[Fatawa Ridawiyyah Vol 4 Page 585]
