QUESTION:

What do the scholars of the Din and muftis of the Sacred Law state regarding the following issue: my daughter will be getting married in the month of Safar. I have been told that this is a month of calamities & bad luck, and that it is not correct for me to get my daughter married in this month. What does the mighty shari’ah say about this?

Questioner: A brother from India

ANSWER:

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم
الجواب بعون الملک الوھاب اللھم ھدایۃ الحق والصواب

To perform the Nik’ah is not prohibited in any month nor does the Nik’ah in any month bring about bad luck and calamities. It is wrongly understood that Safar is the month of calamities whereas the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself refuted this.

The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said:

وَلَا صَفَرَ

“There is nothing bad-luck about Safar.”

[Sahih al-Bukhari, hadith no. 5757]

Therefore, without any fear and worry get your daughter married in Safar.
