QUESTION:

What do the scholars of the Din and muftis of the Sacred Law state regarding the following issue: If a woman enters into her menstrual period just before the time of Iftaar, will her fast become invalid?

Questioner: Abidah from UK

ANSWER:

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم
الجواب بعون الملک الوھاب اللھم ھدایۃ الحق والصواب

Yes! Her fast has become invalid, she will perform Qada (make up) of that particular fast, however she will not be sinful as it is not her fault. Rather she will attain full reward as this is what is hoped from Allaah Azzawajal.

Her fast becoming invalid has been clearly stated in Fatawa Hindiyyah:

” وَ إذَا حَاضَتْ الْمَرْأَةُ وَ نَفِسَتْ أَفْطَرَتْ “

“When a woman enters into her menstruation period (حَيْض) or postnatal bleeding (ْنِفَاس) her fast will be invalidated.”
